Science and Editgrids: A Request for Help
I have been exploring online spreadsheets: Editgrids and Google have pretty useful spreadsheet tools. The concept for this mini-project is to conduct the same simple science investigation in as many different classrooms across the world as possible (at the same time where possible too!). Then to use an online spreadsheet tool to collaborate across these sites and to collate the results as a group. For children of the age in my class (10/11 year olds) they need to understand that the greater number of results that can be collected increases the reliability of the results and thus the conclusions they can draw from it.
Today they completed an investigation into the effect of temperature on the rate of dissolving – we used sweeteners (Canderel) and 4 different temperatures, described as cold, room temperature, warm and hot. All the children did was to time how long it took for the sweetener to dissolve. We pooled our results as a class but I would like to take it a stage further.
So this is an invite to you and your class of children whatever age – to be involved. I thought that we could also explore with the children how best to communicate the ways to make our investigation as fair as possible – perhaps we could use Google Docs (formerly Writely) to collaborate or do it via blogs.
I would appreciate anyone who is interested getting back to me so we can try it out.

Great idea. I am learning adviser – North West UK and I will forward the idea to receptive schools.
